Located in the Pennsylvania Wilds,
this outfitter offers fine dining and accommodations in a modern
lodge and “a haven for 200-inch deer” in his 1,025
acre high fence operation, the largest on the
East Coast.
Big deer – and big elk – are the
trademark of this outfitter, who has been in the whitetail hunting
business for 10 years.
This is not your typical fenced operation.
The outfitter estimates there are 250-300 whitetails on the
property, of which approximately 125 are bucks, and 30-50 elk
at all times. Unlike many fenced operations where the whitetails
are constantly imported to the property, 90 percent of the deer
taken off the estate were born there. Of the 1,025 acres on
the estate, 850 are thickly-wooded, rolling hills, in some places
near impenetrable.
Though all hunts are guaranteed, the outfitter says “our
whitetails aren’t tame. You have to hunt.”
Unlike many high-fence operations that the outfitter claims
strive to get the hunters in, get their bucks, and then get
them out the door, this operation schedules three-and-a-half
day hunts which a person can extend if they wish.
Management is the key to the growth of good
bucks and bulls in such a large area. The hunting preserve has
more than 25 acres of food plots, four feeders that are constantly
filled, apple orchards and lots of water.
Hunting can take place from one of the 42 ground blinds, tree
stands or portable stands on the property, or by spot and stalk.
No blind is located near a feeder, and none are within sight
of the fence. Elk are usually hunted by spotting and stalking,
except during evenings when stands are used. All hunts
are guided by members of the professional staff. Rifles,
black powder, archery and handguns are all welcome at the estate,
though the outfitter does stipulate the use of a rifle the last
day-and-a half of the hunt since hunts are guaranteed. Following
a successful hunt the game if field dressed for the hunter,
packed and delivered to a local processor.

Facilities are first-rate, with the modern
lodge featuring four bedrooms and four baths, a fully-stocked
kitchen and on-site chef, indoor and outdoor fireplaces and
a deck which overlooks the hunting property. There is a banquet
room large enough to accommodate 18-20 people. An on-site rifle
range to check your rifle’s zero. A meat processing facility.
And a downstairs garage where hunters can store gear and access
the four wheelers used to navigate the large property.
The outfitter also has an agreement with a local taxidermist
should one wish to use his services.
And during “down” time, or for the lucky hunter
who bags his deer early, there is an adjacent 1,100
acre preserve managed strictly for the hunting of pheasant and
chukar. Dogs are provided, and the hunter can use his
own shotgun or one provided by the outfitter. Russian boar hunting
can also be arranged at a lodge just 20 minutes away.
No state licenses or permits are needed to hunt on the preserve,
which has a hunting season September 25 until January 1. All
hunts are scheduled for 1-3 nights/days at the hunter’s
choosing, and 4-6 day hunts are available for groups of four
or more. Group discounts are available, and transportation to
and from an airport is available upon request, for a $100 fee.
