Imagine waking to the “roar” of Red Stag, and sipping your morning coffee – or tea – watching Safari Club International gold medal stags roaming the hillside out the dining room window.

Our New Zealand outfitter consistently has among the best Red Stags the country has to offer, his hunters placing many among the top in the record books.

Hunting takes place on a 2,000-acre estate located on the North Island, which features high, rolling hills, lush valleys and gullies filled with sub-tropical cover. The thick vegetation and steep, rugged terrain make for challenging hunting and great habitat to help maintain healthy herds.

In addition to Red Stag, hunters can pursue Sambar, Rusa, Sika and Fallow Deer, as well as Arapawa Rams, Wild Goats and Wild Boar on the estate, one of the few lodges in the country that can offer such a wide variety of hunting in one location.

Care is taken to maintain the quality of the herds, and for that reason the owner accepts no more than 45-50 hunters a year for Red Stag, and even fewer for the other species.

The lodge, located high above the hunting area, was built by the owner and is remote enough that power must be provided by a combination of solar panels, a wind turbine and back-up generator.

Two guest rooms, each with a bath, accommodate no more than four hunters at a time. The dining/living area has a vaulted ceiling and walls covered with wood siding taken from trees on the property, and has large windows from which one can view the surrounding hills and the sea in the distance.

Meals, accompanied by fine New Zealand wines, are served in a relaxed, family environment.

Hunting begins each year in March at the beginning of the roar, which is the rut for Red Stag. The roar lasts until May, though fine Red Stag hunting continues through August.

Our outfitter claims he has the best Sambar and Rusa in the country. Hunting for these great trophy deer can be done with a Red Stag hunt or separately, the best time being during June. The best hunting time for Fallow Deer is March, and Sika Deer hunting is equally good March through August.

Hunting in the South Island among the breathtaking Southern Alps is also available for Tahr and Chamois.

A fine lodge, great food and the personal attention given each hunter makes this outfitter a great choice for a New Zealand hunting adventure,…,…
